Man leads officer on chase

Albert Orona III was arrested on Sunday after he led an Alice police officer on a chase. Officer Manuel Garcia IV was on patrol on South Highway 281 when he observed a vehicle with a defective tail light. When the officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop the driver, later identified as Orona, took off at a high rate of speed. Orona led the officer through several streets striking several parked cars along the way. Orona came to a stop near Guerra Street, exitted the vehicle and took off on foot. Officer Garcia chased Orona and eventually caught him. Orona was arrested and transported to the Jim Wells County jail. As other officers conducted an inventory of Orona’s vehicle they located several bags of narcotics including marijuana, Xanax, crystal meth, cocaine and a scale. The marijuana had a total weight of 195 grams, the Xanax weighed 23.70 grams, crystal meth had a total weight of 3.64 grams and the cocaine had a weight of 1.75 grams. Orona was charged with evading arrest with a motor vehicle, possession of marijuana, manufacturing and delivery of a controlled substance, and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.

Drug use reported

Officers received a call about possible drug use at a residence on the 1400 block of Easterling. When officers arrived they began to pat down individuals who were at the residence. When Officer Jose Flores patted down Heriberto Contreras III he found a small foil packet in Contreras’ pockets that contained synthetic marijuana. Contreras was arrested and taken to the JWC jail. He was charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Fight in progress, one man arrested

Officers were called out to a residence on the 1000 block of North Reynolds Street of a fight in progress on Saturday. As Officer Garcia arrived at the residence he observed a vehicle drive out of the driveway. The officer stopped the vehicle and made contact with Bruce Bowen III who told the officer he had been at the residence to confront a man for texting his girlfriend. Bowen had blood on his clothes and was detained for further investigation. Officer Garcia made contact with the victim and a witness who stated that someone had gone into the backyard as the victim was barbecuing and assaulted them. Bowen was arrested, taken to the hospital for medical clearance and then transferred to the JWC jail. He was charged with assault causing bodily injury.

Wanted man arrested

Officer Juan Arizpe arrested Russell Savage on Friday, April 3 after a call was made to the police department about a wanted individual. When the officer made contact with Savage he informed Savage that he had a warrant on a parole violation. For officer safety Savage was patted down and located a small bag of crystal meth. Savage was taken to the JWC jail and charged with possession of a controlled substance and the warrant.
