An investigation into an accident involving a drunk driver and a 5-year-old is being conducted by the Texas Department of Public Safety troopers.
According to law enforcement, a woman, identified as Iza Salinas, was driving in the area of Beam Station and Carmen Street when she left the roadway, struck a fence, a tree and the child.
DPS is attempting to determine how the child became involved in the accident, Sgt. Nathan Brandley with DPS said.
The investigation will include calling several witnesses.
According to the child’s family, she was taken to the hospital but is now at home. She suffered a concussion and some bruising above the child’s kidneys.
Salinas was taken to the Jim Wells County jail. She was charged with driving while intoxicated.
Salinas faces intoxication assault charges.
