A woman was taken to the hospital Thursday afternoon after another driver ran the red light and struck her SUV.

According to Sgt. Juan Martinez, the woman driving the gray truck was traveling northbound on the 2500 block of East Main Street when she ran the red light and t-boned a white Buick SUV that was traveling eastbound.

The driver of the truck was given a sobriety test after officers discovered an open container of alcohol in her vehicle, Martinez said. The driver passed the sobriety test and was released. She was given a citation for failure to yield the right of way and for the open container.

Alice firefighters had to use the jaws of life to retrieve the woman from her SUV.

The accident is under investigation. No one was arrested.
