One of the seven House of Representatives members prosecuting President Donald Trump in his impeachment trail is originally from Palito Blanco.


Sylvia Garcia of Houston is a first-term Texas congresswoman who origins started humbly in South Texas in a small town of less than 400 people, located off of South Highway 281.


The 69-year-old congresswoman grew up in the South Texas farming community of Palito Blanco. She is the daughter of Luis and Antonia Rodriguez Garcia and the eighth of 10 children.


Congresswoman Garcia's parents taught her that with hard work and a good education she could accomplish anything, according to the House of Representatives website.


She graduated from Ben-Bolt Palito Blanco High School and went on to attended Texas Southern University where she earned her law degree. She served as a municipal judge, Houston city controller, Harris County commissioner, and state senator before being elected to represent Texas’ 29 Congressional District in 2018.


Garcia was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in November 2018, becoming the first Latina ever to represent Texas 29th Congressional district, according to the House of Representatives website.


She became one of the first two Hispanics to represent the State of Texas in the U.S. Congress.
