The Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) Women's Auxiliary donated $300 to the Alice Independent School District to supply and support additional Stop the Bleed Kits to the district.
Stop the Bleed is a mandated training under House Bill 496 signed by Governor Greg Abbott on June 15, 2019; that requires all public students and academic staff to install bleeding control kits and the training for administration to save lives. The mandate is in response to the epidemic of mass shootings in American schools. Studies have shown the biggest cause of preventable death in response to a traumatic injury and gun shot wound is due to uncontrolled bleeding. With the recent mandate all Texas schools as of January 2020 by law have bleeding control kits in designated areas throughout the school and trained students and staff to help a save a life, if a mass shooting might occur.
The VFW Women's Auxiliary supported the safety and security measures during the mandated Stop the Bleed training’s and decided the district was in need of more kits, and donated $300 to support that effort.
