Alice Black History Delegation has organized this year's march and celebration in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
The celebration and march are to be held at the Old Carver School site on Encinal street at 4 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 20; King’s birthday.
The march will take place from Ferrell Avenue and Encinal Street to the school site at 3:45 p.m. Bleachers will be available for seating. Please assemble for the March at 3:30pm.
This year’s speaker is Jim Wells County’s District Attorney Carlos Omar Garcia.
King’s March on Washington held a purpose. The purpose was to advocate for the civil and economic rights of African Americans. The march was held in Washington, D.C. on August 28, 1963. He delivered his famous and historic "I Have a Dream" speech where he called for the end of racism.
In case of inclement weather, the event will take place at True Light Baptist Church.
