Six new vehicles were recently purchased by the Jim Wells County Sheriff’s Department through the drug forfeiture fund.
Five of the vehicles will be used for patrol and one as the K9 unit.
They were purchased for a total of $276,627.30. The first payment will not be made until 2020 and after three years the vehicles will belong to the department.
Three of the old units were already sold at auction held Nov. 9. Other units may be borrowed by other entities in the area.
The units are being fitted with decals and other equipment.
