Trey Espinoza and Iry Renard Patterson were taken into custody on marijuana charges Wednesday after being stopped by the Jim Wells County Criminal Investigations Division on US Highway 281 about a mile north of Texas State Highway 141.

The deputy conducted a traffic stop on a 2018 white Dodge Journey on South Highway 281 after a routine traffic violation. During the roadside interview, 27-year-old Trey Espinoza, the driver, gave police consent to search the vehicle.

While searching the vehicle, deputies discovered seven large bags of marijuana with a street value for the marijuana is estimated to be over $3,500, according to sheriff officials. Espinoza told the deputies that the marijuana was his.

Thirty-five-year-old Patterson was found to be in possession of a THC Vial.

Both men were transported to the JWC jail.

JWC Sheriff Daniel Bueno credits his interdiction and narcotics divisions for their continued performance on Highway 281 as they combat illegal activity that comes through the county.
