The late Jesus “Jesse” Barrientes touched many hearts in Alice with his endless giving. On Saturday, Barrientes was honored with a memorial track at the West Side Youth Center in his honor.

The Rancho Alegre Youth Center is a place that serves countless youngsters and teenagers. It’s also a place that only exists because of the kindness and generosity of others.

Barrientes was the owner of Jesse’s Roofing, who often gave freely to the center for everything from replacing old basketball goals and buying new equipment for different sports teams to sponsoring the youth center’s annual Christmas party and Easter egg hunt.

Barrientes died in 2017 from an advanced aggressive cancer which was only recently found on his liver.

Barrientes was also a family man, who loved football, especially the Ben Bolt-Palito Blanco Badgers. He starred for the Badger football program and earned all-state honors as a defensive tackle during his senior year in 1983.

Barrientes’ wife Esmeralda of Palito Blanco was at the unveiling of the track memorial.
