The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) in Alice is supporting the #EndTheStreak campaign starting Nov.7. The campaign is to bring awareness for public safety while driving on Texas roads.

Since Nov. 7, 2000 at least one person has died on Texas roadways every single day resulting in more than 65,000 fatalities. The leading causes of fatalities continue to be failure to stay in one lane, alcohol, and speed. To help raise awareness TxDOT is asking people to share their stories of lost ones online and support their campaign at #EndTheStreak.

The Alice Fire Department, Chief of Police Aniceto "Cheto" Perez and City Councilwoman Sandra Bowen came to support event. Bowen stated, "It was an honor to be alongside the TxDOT staff and city officials to represent our City and provide support in this very important endeavor." "Safety has always been a priority in my life." "It is important to be vigilant on our roads and always ask yourself the (what if's)." "I love this community and your safety is one of my priorities. Stay safe my City."

The public can post stories online at the TXDOT website and the agency will continue to communicate statistics during the campaign to hopefully End the Streak of fatalities on Texas roads -even for one day.
