BENAVIDES – Texas state Rep. Ryan Guillen announced on Monday night that he along with Bradford Wyatt, administrator for Wyatt Ranches and The Wyatt Foundation were able to anquire state funding for a new $200,000 fire truck for the Duval County Emergency Services District #2.

The announcement was made at a dinner reception held at the Benavides Civic Center organized by Duval County Sheriff Romeo Ramirez to honor first responders from across Duval County and the surrounding region.

"Having heard from constituents in Duval County about the need for a fire truck, we worked hard this session to secure one, to ensure that Duval County residents, through their fire department, have the equipment they need to protect their property, their families and their community," Guillen said.

The funding will come from the Texas A&M Forrest Service through language that Representative Ryan Guillen added to the appropriations bill, HB 1, in the 86th Texas Legislature.

"Rural areas of South Texas, like Benavides y Los Ranchos de Duval County are in dire need of equipment and resources to meet the needs of their communities. And Wyatt Ranches, headed by Brad Wyatt, have been a tremendous help through their philanthropic efforts over the years, and this grant will only compliment the work that they've done and that of the community,“ Guillen said.

The Texas A&M Forrest Service currently has a long list of applications for needed equipment from hundreds of communities across the state.

"It is important to note, that all the equipment in the world would not matter were it not for the first responders that put their lives on the line in the service of others, including, those that volunteer their time without pay. We salute and appreciate you," Guillen added.

Serving ten rural South Texas counties in the Texas House of Representatives, Ryan Guillen is known for his hard work, fierce independence, and relentless efforts for South Texas families. Recently, Capitol Inside called him a “House Bill Machine,” and a “one-person assembly line for legislation.” Since elected, few other legislators have passed more bills than Guillen.
