A large group of supporters gathered at the Jim Wells County Courthouse to participate in the 19th annual Healing (Heeling )Walk on Friday, Oct. 4. This year's event had over 250 people come out to walk in stride for a good cause. The annual event encourages local families battling and surviving breast cancer and to come out and bring awareness and support for other individuals facing the disease.


Festivities included a full body warm up with Zumba Instructor David Davila from Triple D Fitness followed by a community prayer by Baptist Temple Pastor Levi Holder. Alice Mayor Jolene Vanover presented an official proclamation to the city declaring the month of October as Cancer Awareness Month in Alice.


Breast cancer warrior Anna Pastrano was honored as the 2019 parade marshal


and started the walk around the courthouse as local supporters followed. The event ended with refreshments, door prizes and a large community turnout supporting the cause for cancer awareness and prevention towards the life threatening disease.
