A.C. Jones Beeville High School wants to recognize and acknowledge a former student-athlete John Gilbert Anaya, graduate of 1975, for his dedication and success towards his academic and athletic high school career by officially placing him in The Beeville Sports Hall of Fame. Ayala has been a resident of Alice, Texas for nearly 40 years. He is married to Nelda Ramos Ayala who is an Administrative Assistance for the Alice I.S.D Athletic Director, and is the father of 3 kids, Janice, Michael and John Ayala Jr.

The banquet will take place at the A.C. Jones Cafeteria Saturday noon, with special guest, Byron Bradfute, who is a former Dallas Cowboys player and Beeville Sports Hall of Famer.

Ayala was a dedicated student-athlete who was successful in cross country and track and field. Ayala was known for regularly stepping on the medal stand and maintaining an Honor Student reputation. As a Sophomore, Ayala was already leaving great first impressions and setting a school record in the two-mile run. Ayala was hungry for more and ended up improving his time the next two years of his high school career. His senior year, Ayala placed 34th for the Trojans at the Regional Cross Country Meet and ninth at the District Meet. He was also awarded Most Outstanding Runner at the 1974 All-Sports banquet. Ayala also left the crowd stunned, when he finished one of his races with a broken foot. Ayala’s ethos set the goal for his classmates that everything is processed through patience and perseverance.
