In less than 30 minutes in executive session, the San Diego Independent School District school board members announced they do not have a superintendent finalist.

The announcement was made during Wednesday night's regular meeting.

"We don't have a finalist," said school board president Librada "Libby" Vela.

According to Vela, there were originally 35 applicants for the position, then down to six and now they are attempting to pick a finalist from the last three applicants left.

The board will discuss the superintendent finalist at another school board meeting. The names of the final three finalists cannot be released at this time.

The search for superintendent comes after Dr. Sam Bueno announced his retirement in March of 2019. His retirement will go into effect on June 30.
