An 18-wheeler loaded with 8,700 gallons of petroleum caught fire at the intersection of South Reynolds and Cecilia on Monday.

According to Jose Tovar, the driver of the truck, the batteries gave a short and quickly caught the truck's cab on fire. He jumped out of his truck and grabbed his fire extinguisher.

Cops showed up and moved Tovar to safety. Firefighters arrived and extinguished the fire before it could get to the petroleum.

Tovar was able to save a few papers from the semi.

Tovar had just left Bishop and was traveling to the valley.

No injuries were reported.
