A surprise jail inspection by the Texas Commission on Jail Standards was conducted on Friday. After hours at the jail, the inspector gave the jail a passing grade.
The inspector stopped at the 100-year-old Jim Wells County jail at approximately 9 a.m. and didn't leave until 5:30 p.m. checking the jail conditions and paperwork kept on bookings, inmates housed and medical logs.
This is the third inspection under Sheriff Daniel Bueno since he took office in 2017.
Sheriff Bueno is proud of the staff and directors for their hard work and dedication to making the jail inspections a success especially with all the new changes to operations and law regarding the Sandra Bland Act.
Each year, every jail must undergo an inspection. All the inspections are surprise visits.
Sheriff Bueno said he will continue to operate at the highest standard possible.
