SAN DIEGO - Three adults, a 5-year-old child and a kitten were rescued Wednesday afternoon after the vehicle they were traveling in rolled over and land in a ditch.

The female driver lost control of her Toyota Camry as they traveled west on Highway 44 near County Road 303. The vehicle, occupied by four people, went into the grassy area and flipped. It landed on its rooftop.

According to law enforcement officers at the scene, no one witnessed the accident, but a motorist observed a young man on the side of the highway who flagged him down.

The occupants of the vehicle were transported to the hospital. The child had a major injury to his head and was bleeding profusely, officers said.

Names were not released due to the serious injuries sustained in the accident.

The incident is under investigation.
