FREER – A Laredo man died as a result of a three-vehicle accident Thursday.

The three vehicle-fatality crash that killed 42-year-old Cesar Israel Trevino occurred at approximately 6:57 p.m., on United States 59 southwest of Freer.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2020 Kenworth truck tractor semi-trailer had been traveling southwest on US 59 and stopped for a flagman in a construction zone. A 2015 Ford Explorer occupied by Trevino was stopped behind the Kenworth truck tractor semi-trailer in the construction zone when the driver of a 2018 Ford F-250 traveling southwest failed to control the speed of the vehicle and struck Trevino's vehicle from behind, according to Sgt. Nathan Brandley.

Trevino was pronounced at the scene by Justice of the Peace #4 Josie Fernandez.

The other two drivers were transported to hospitals in Corpus Christi and Alice with serious injuries.

DPS Troopers are further investigating the fatal crash.
