More than nine ounces of cocaine and $1,070 was discovered Tuesday in a routine traffic stop on the 600 block of Highland.
According to police, officers with the narcotics division conducted a traffic stop on a Chevrolet Malibu when they made contact with Rickelle Chavarria and Justin Gonzalez.
Chavarria and Gonzalez showed signs of nervousness, according to police.
Chavarria had no drivers license and was asked to step out of the vehicle. She was placed under arrest for the charge.
Police were conducting an inventory of the belongings in the vehicle when they discovered 9.4 ounces of cocaine hidden behind the back passenger seat and the cash inside Chavarria's purse.
Chavarria told police that she is unemployed and is attending school, police said.
Gonzalez claimed ownership of the drugs and was arrested for possession of a controlled substance. Chavarria was charged with driving while license invalid - enhanced.
Both suspects were transported to the Jim Wells County jail.
