FREER - Martha Salinas Delay and Haley Viera were named as the Freer Citizen and Jr. Citizen of the Year at the recent Rattlesnake Roundup pageant.
Delay, Freer Citizen of the Year, is the owner of Liberty Cafe. She is the daughter of the late Benjamin and Idalia Salinas. She is a mother to Ricky and Roxy, and has four grandchildren. She is a graduate of Freer High School. She works many communities activities from behind the scenes. Delay began a scholarship in honor of her late parents and is part of organizations such as the Fishing for Autism Tournament and is the host of the Rattlesnake Roundup kick-off breakfast.
Viera is the daughter of Heather and Andrew Viera, and has a sister named Hannah. She has excelled in both academics and athletics. She is in the top 10 of her class and the National Honor Society vice-president. She volunteers in organizations such as toy and food drives. Haley is proud to leave her mark in Freer and honored to be its Junior Citizen of the Year. This fall, she will be attending Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls and pursuing a degree in Radiology Technology. She is humbled to have received this award as she knows the importance of setting a good example to her peers. She would also would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported and encouraged her throughout her school years at FISD.
