Embattled Precinct One Constable Jesus “Chuy” Salinas offered his resignation to the Jim Wells County Commissioner’s Court, with an effective date of May 31.
A petition for his removal was filed by Precinct 3 Constable Jim Long, in September of 2018.
The report was filed due to Salinas’ inability to perform his job as Constable due to an unknown illness that has had him homebound since 2018.
Salinas has been constable for more than 10 years, prior to his illness and has been collecting a paycheck while being homebound. According to previous reports by AENJ, his salary was $46,874.
In a letter to the court, Salinas stated that he “was grateful to the fine people of Jim Wells County” and that he had “hoped to serve out the remainder of his term (Dec. 2020)” but that his “health had prevented him from doing so.”
The court voted to accept his resignation and will begin the search for a new constable for Precinct 1.
