Culinary arts instructor Barbara Garcia took 13 students to the Ronald McDonald House in Corpus Christi on Wednesday, March 27. The Ronald McDonald House provides a place to stay for families whose loved ones require long term hospital stays, giving the families a cost effective way to stay near their loved ones.
The students worked together to make a meal for 50 people. Chicken fajitas, rice, beans, guacamole and pico de gallo was on the menu for the residents, along with cookies and cream cupcakes for dessert. The students also worked to put together 35 Easter baskets to brighten the holiday for the younger residents of the Ronald McDonald House.
“We packed coloring books, activity pads, bubbles, things like that,” said Garcia. “We didn’t want to put too much candy because we weren’t sure of dietary restrictions.”
Students prepared the meal in about three hours, making sure dinner was ready at 6 p.m. This was the second time that AHS has prepared a meal at the Ronald McDonald House. Students went in the fall and were anxious to get back and lend their cooking talents again.
