MATHIS - A two-vehicle accident claimed the life of a Mathis resident Monday at approximately 8 p.m., according to Department of Public Safety Sgt. Nathan Brandley.

DPS is investigating fatality crash that occurred on Farm-to-Market 888 and I-37 frontage road, approximately five miles north of Mathis in Live Oak County.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2007 Cub Cadet Truck tractor semi-trailer was traveling north on the frontage road to I-37 as a 2001 Harley-Davidson motorcycle traveled east on FM 888.

The driver of the Cub Cadet Truck tractor semi-trailer proceeded through the intersection of FM 888 and the I-37 frontage road to continue northbound.

Haskel Wayne Rouse, 49, was unable to stop his motorcycle and struck the belly dump portion of the semi-trailer. Rouse was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash.

The driver of the Cub Cadet did not sustain any injuries. DPS Troopers are investigating the fatal crash.
