Raleigh, N.C. – Registration is open for Minority Landowner Magazine's 2019 Farmers and Landowners Conference being held May 1 – May 2, 2019 in partnership with USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service in Texas. This year’s conference is held at the Pearl South Padre in South Padre Island, Texas.
The conference is open to all producers that are interested in learning more about agriculture resources.
There are scholarships available and they will cover: lodging, the registration fee and food for those two days. If producers are traveling long distance, the hotel room can be made available for them on April 30.
The conference attracts farmers, ranchers, forest landowners and resource professionals across Texas, surrounding states, and nationally. The conference will connect attendees to agricultural resource professionals in the federal, state, university, community-based organizations, and private sectors. Last year’s conference was held in El Paso, with the theme, “Focused on the Care of the Farm; Focused on the Care of the Farmer.” In addition to familiar topics involving technical and financial assistance, agricultural grant opportunities, and heirs’ property and estate planning, time was devoted to better understanding and coping with the stresses of farming that lead to mental health issues and suicide.
This year’s conference builds on those topics with representatives from USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, USDA Farm Service Agency, Cooperative Extension Service and many more in attendance. We’ll view the farm as alive. And, as such, we’ll examine the “nourishment” that a living farm requires to survive the various and often unpredictable stages of life, so that it may mature and thrive.
