Driving through Alice seems to be taking just a little bit longer due to construction projects that have either closed down lanes or intersections.
Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) contractor began curb and sidewalk improvements in Alice that include construction of sidewalk ramps that comply with the American with Disabilities Act, according to Rickey Dailey with TxDOT.
Work began in February and continues Business 281 from Easterling Drive to South Johnson Street and on Highway 44 from Matt Murphy Street to South Johnson Street. Contractors will work from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, weather permitting.
Motorists will encounter work zones in Alice. Traffic may be reduced to a minimum of one lane in each direction or in alternating directions with flaggers controlling traffic movement.
Dailey said the sidewalk improvements are expected throughout, weather permitting.
Motorists are urged to be aware of the lane closures, to expect delays, plan to use alternate routes and follow all traffic control instructions.
