Alice Independent School District school board members voted Monday evening to extend Superintendent Dr. Carl Scarbrough's contract through the year 2024.

Dr. Scarbrough has been with the district since 2018 after Superintendent Dr. Alma Charles resigned after only five months on the job.

Before joining Alice ISD, Dr. Scarbrough held the assistant superintendent position in San Antonio ISD since 2016. He has 30 years in the education field. During his career, Dr. Scarbrough has led key innovative instructional initiatives at the district level, and his campuses received recognized, exemplary Title 1 Distinction, and National Blue Ribbon awards.

His previous roles include assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction at Seguin ISD; principal and curriculum director at Southside ISD; and high school teacher, coach, instructional coordinator, vice-principal, and principal in Harlandale ISD.

The school boards' decision was made unanimously.
