Memorial Intermediate students were placed on lockdown Friday after a man was scene on the premises bleeding and asking for help.
According to police, an officer was dispatched to the school, located on the 900 block of West Third Street, after the principal noticed 23-year-old Brian Scott Benavides on school grounds.
When Officer Nick Reyes arrived he found Benavides on the ground behind the campus office. According to the officer's report, Benavides had slurred speech and was foaming at the mouth.
The principal told police that Benavides attempted to break into one of the school's wings by breaking a window, according to the police report. However, Benavides was unsuccessful in his attempt and resulted in cutting his arm.
Benavides' sister arrived on scene and told the officer he had been smoking synthetic marijuana and began to hallucinate. He took off running believing someone was after him.
Benavides was taken to the hospital and than transferred to the Jim Wells County jail. He was charged with criminal mischief.
