KINGSVILLE - Two men from Mexico were arrested Thursday during a traffic stop near Kingsville as part of a joint operation coalition between the Kleberg County and Jim Wells County Sheriff's Offices.
Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a pickup and made contact with the men, whose names have not been released.
Deputies searched the vehicle with the assistance of a K9 officer, when they located more than $551,000 hidden in a compartment. The money is believed to be linked to illegal activities, according to sheriff officials.
"As part of our combined efforts and the partnership with both agencies, we were able to disrupt a major organization," JWC Sheriff Daniel Bueno.
The case and the suspects were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).
This money and all money seized by the sheriff's office goes into the drug forfeiture and is used to purchase software, vehicles, training etc., according to sheriff officials.
