Thieves take advantage of unlocked car
Two men were arrested for allegedly breaking into a vehicle on the 500 block of West Farm Street Saturday. Alice police arrived at the location to find Christopher A. Longoria Jr. on the ground surrounded by several firefighters and the victim.
The victim told Officer Martin Suarez that Longoria and another man, later identified as Kevin R. Johnson, had broken into his vehicle and stolen several items.
Longoria admitted to police that him and Johnson were walking passed the vehicle when he discovered the vehicle was unlocked. He proceeded to take a pair of sunglasses, a tape measure and binoculars out of the vehicle. As he attempted to flee the scene with the stolen items, he was stopped by the victim at gun point.
Johnson took off running into a nearby residence. With permission from the homeowner, police went inside and arrested Johnson. Johnson had allegedly taken a gun from the victim's vehicle. He tossed it into a nearby yard as he ran.
Both suspects were transported to the Jim Wells County jail. They were charged with theft of a firearm and burglary of a vehicle.
