Investigators with the Jim Wells County Sheriff's Office recovered a stolen firearm to a pawn shop in Beeville. The 21-year-old suspect, Jesse James Lopez, was arrested on Friday, Nov. 9by the United States Customs and Border Protections Agency.
The theft occurred in July. The reporting party told police the Glock 9mm was stolen from their vehicle in Orange Grove.
Sgt. Danny Galvez worked closely with the victim and were able to identify Lopez as the suspect.
The arrest warrant was obtained and entered into the Texas Crime Information Center Wanted Person database.
Lopez was near the McAllen-Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge on his way to Mexico when authorities were alerted, according to sheriff officials.
Lopez was transported to the Hidalgo County jail.
Sheriff Daniel Bueno reminds everyone to be responsible gun owners and record serial numbers of all weapons. Taking photos of guns and having serial numbers are of "great importance" when attempting to recover firearms.
