Officer Bianca Mitchell was dispatched to a residence on the 500 block of East Hill Street on Thursday, Nov. 15. When she arrived she observed the front door open and could hear multiple people screaming. Officer Mitchell and Cpl. Isaac Salinas entered the evidence and located Miguel Chapa in a back bedroom. Chapa was detained until further investigation. Officers spoke with several women in the residence. One of the women told officers that Chapa was only defending her after being assaulted. Chapa was arrested and transported to the Jim Wells County jail. He was charged with assault causing bodily injury.
Officer Brandon Reynolds was on patrol Tuesday, Nov. 13 when he conducted a traffic stop on a gray pickup near the county courthouse. The routine traffic stop led to the arrest of Melissa Casas when the officer discovered her license was invalid. Casas was patted down at the JWC jail. Officer Reynolds was notified that Casas had a knife and 0.4 grams of crystal meth on her person. Casas was booked and charged with driving while license invalid enhanced and possession of a controlled substance.
