PREMONT - Premont City Council appointed a new police chief on Tuesday, Oct. 16 during a city council meeting.

The new Police Chief is no stranger to law enforcement or the community.

Chief Juan Garcia has over 30 years of law enforcement experience and was the Police Chief in San Diego.

Garcia worked with Duval County Constable's Office, Benavides and San Diego PD. He also taught the Criminal Justice CTE class and was the Junior Police Academy sponsor at Alice High School.

Garcia's official day is on Nov. 1. He takes the position after Chief Fernando Garcia's resignation over the summer.
