CALALLEN — The Alice High School marching band was perfect in the judges' eyes Saturday night in Calallen.

Alice scored straight 1’s and received a 1st Division Rating for its performance at the Class 5A, Region XIV University Interscholastic League Marching Band Contest at Wildcats Stadium in Calallen Saturday night. Since it’s not a “state” year for Class 5A bands, the contest marks the end of Alice’s marching competition season.

The Alice marching band performed its routine called, “Carnival España.”

Alice High School band director Arnold Garza said it was the culmination of a lot of work by a lot of people, including band directors, band students and school administrators and school board members.

“This wouldn’t have been possible without our amazing staff and of course our relentless kids,” Garza posted on Facebook after the contest. “Thank you, Steven Garcia, Christian Rodriguez, Joe Murillo, Christina Cardenas, Ryan Carlisle, Omar Garza and Debbie Gonzalez Chapa... you guys made this work and I couldn’t be more grateful to have you guys as my colleagues.”

Garza also thanked Alice ISD and Alice High School administrators.

“Last but not least, thank you to Dr. Carl Scarbrough, AISD superintendent, of schools for your incredible support. Dr. Cidonio Cantu, principal at Alice High School, and AISD board of trustees for your unwavering support. We’re a great team.” Garza said.

In the 2A/3A/4A Region 14 Marching Contest at San Diego High School, Class 4A Orange Grove and Class 3A San Diego each scored 1’s.
