The passion for learning and children gave one teacher at Alice Independent School District a career in education.

Noonan Elementary's third grade reading teacher Cristina Shearin was awarded the October Amazing Teacher Award Wednesday on behalf of Alice Echo News Journal and Bowden Ford of Alice.

"I love being around children and I like learning myself," Shearin said. "It's a continuous learning process..."

Shearin comes from a family of educators. Her brother is a coach and her sister is a teacher; all employed with Alice ISD.

"(Awards like this) give teachers a feel of appreciation," she stated with a grin from ear to ear. "I'm honored. It's nice and very much appreciated."

Shearing has been a teacher for nine years. She won the AENJ's 2018 Readers Choice Award for Best Teacher.

AENJ will surprise a teacher each month until May. To nominate a teacher whose made a difference in your life or child's life, you can click on the nomination Amazing Teacher button on our website at
