FREER – The third annual Suicide Awareness Seminar brought families people together to remember their loved ones by spreading awareness.

The event was started by Melissa Mireles whose brother's suicide left a void in her families lives. She began to use his short life to help others understand suicide.

Mireles invited Duval County and Freer officials to speak about the dangers of one's own thoughts and how to spot the warning signs of suicide at the Freer Civic Center.

Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the united States that claims 44,193 American lives per year, according to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. For every one suicide there are 25 attempted suicides.
