On Tuesday and Wednesday, Alice police participated in a response to resistance training. Officers were placed in simulated circumstances that mimicked real world scenarios with a tool provided by the Texas Municipal League.
One could think of the training as a life-sized video game with hundreds of pre-recorded scenarios where officers could interact with on-screen characters. Scenarios covered everything from domestic disturbances to a routine traffic stops even active shooters at a school basketball game.
Officers used a real handgun and taser, that had been converted for the virtual training, for the exercise. After each exercise the officers explained why they responded to the scenarios.
Some objectives of the training included were to have officers relate to particular case law and constitutional provisions to specific response to resistance situations and scenarios, and to demonstrate elements of effective communication.
