Kathryn Blankenship, 99, was recognized at the Delta Kappa Gamma State Convention on June 16, 2018 in Waco, Texas for having the longest membership in the society in Texas.
The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International promotes professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education. The Society honors key women educators who have given or who evidence a potential for distinctive service in any field of education.
Kathryn has been a member for 70 years. She is a member of the Kappa Tau chapter in Alice. For many years she taught Homemaking and Home and Family Living courses in the homemaking cottage at William Adams High School.
She taught the first boys class of homemaking in Alice. The class consisted of 16 boys who were eager to learn how to cook.
She is a graduate of Texas A & I in Kingsville. She was married to Earl Blankenship, who was a building contractor and the Alice Building Inspector for many years.
Katheryn has an infectious smile and positive altitude. She says her secret of life is to laugh every day.
