First responders spent their Friday with the RRS Patient Decontamination perfecting their hazmat skills.

Alice firefighters and a Kleberg County nurse participated in the training held at the CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Alice as they learned the proper techniques on how to keep themselves and individuals who have been in contact with hazmat material safe.

Participants dressed in yellow hazmat suits practiced how to properly wash patients before nurses can provide medical attention. Instructors reminded the first responders about preparing mentally for all sorts of patients such as people who are handicapped to infants and even service animals as well as conditions that may surround them on the field.

The purpose of the one-day training is to help first responders avoid catastrophe and provide patient care.
