Senior citizens of Alice participated in the second annual End Elder Abuse Senior Olympics on Friday hosted by Retama Manor Alice and the Community Coalition for Children and Family.

Elder abuse is a serious nationwide issue that has harmful effects victims. The goal for elder abuse prevention is to stop it from happening in the first place.

According to the National Center on Elder Abuse (NCEA), perpetrators are most likely to be adult children or spouses, more likely to be male, to have history of past or current substance abuse, to have mental or physical health problems, to have history of trouble with the police, to be socially isolated, to be unemployed or have financial problems, and to be experiencing major stress.
