Alice police and other law enforcement officers will participate in the Special Olympics Torch Run on Wednesday, May 23. Police have invited special olympic athletes who would like to join the run to meet near the intersection of Main and Aransas Streets.
The mission of the run is to raise awareness and funds for the Special Olympics movement.
The run began in 1981 when Wichita, Kansas, Police Chief Richard LaMunyon created the Torch Run in the hopes that the torch run would help law enforcement be active in the community and support Special Olympics.
Runners will run through Alice. They will stop at the Auction Barn on South Johnson, head to Martin Luther King Boulevard, head north towards West Front, go east on North Aransas then down Main Street and stop at Heldt Park on Almond Street.
