Despite the 40 degree weather on Monday morning, several students who attend Premont Early College Academy took a swim at in the pool of the Alice Multi-Use Complex and Natatorium.

Aquatic Facility Manager Taylor Johnson jumped into the crystal blue water as the students sat at the edge of the pool listening to his instructions with their tiny feet in the water. With pool noodles under their arms the students entered the water and swam around.

The City of Alice and Premont Independent School District have partnered to provide a water safety program to students thanks to funds from the TTIPS Grant. The grant is primarily an academic grant that does allow some money to be used for recreation. TTIPS Grants funds most of the Premont ISD summer programs.

Water safety is among the most needed of safety programs to teach youth and encourage a healthy lifestyle through the promotion of physical activities and athletics.
