The City of San Diego Youth Initiative will hold its first community activity for youth Saturday, Aug. 12 at 8 a.m. till 11 a.m. at the Vaquero Football Stadium.

The “Get Fit Before School Hits” wellness activity is free and open to all school age youth in grades K-12. Participating youth and families are encouraged to have a light breakfast prior to the activity and should also bring a snack and bottle of water to the event.  All participating youth must attend the activity with a parent or legal guardian.

This wellness activity is one of many that will be hosted by the San Diego Youth Initiative this year.

“We are very excited about this activity and encourage all families to come out to Vaquero Football Stadium this Saturday morning,” said event organizer Sandra Morin, San Diego Youth Initiative Program and Activities Sub-Committee Chair.  “This activity will be challenging, fun, and help get kids in the outdoors.”

The San Diego Youth Initiative launched in May at a kick-off meeting at City Hall.  The initiative’s executive committee was selected and trained in July.  The San Diego Youth Initiative Executive Committee was formally introduced and recognized at the San Diego City Council Meeting on July 12.

“I am very pleased that we have come together so quickly in just a couple months and that we are moving in the right direction to create opportunities for youth in San Diego and Duval County,” said San Diego Youth Initiative Committee Chair Belinda Morin.

San Diego’s consulting firm, EMC Strategy Group, LLC, is serving as the professional staff advisors to the Youth Initiative.   The San Diego City Council approved of the Youth Initiative earlier this summer and its goal of forming collaborative efforts with existing youth programs and organizations to provide expanded opportunities for youth in San Diego, TX.
