Jose Angel Hinojosa Jr. was arrested on the 1100 block of Madison for evading arrest with vehicle, possession of a controlled substance and tampering with evidence on Thursday. While Officer Juan Reyes was on patrol on North King Street he observed a vehicle with no tail lights traveling southbound on King Street. The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop. However, the driver of the vehicle, later identified as Hinojosa, refused to stop and took the officer on a short pursuit from King Street through Alice and finally stopping at a residence on Madison. Reyes pulled out his taser and commended Hinojosa to stop. Reyes and an assisting officer entered the home and arrested Hinojosa as he exited a bedroom. Inside the bedroom that Hinojosa exited, officers located a bag of cocaine and a marijuana cigarette. Hinojosa was transported to the Jim Wells County jail.
Brandon Shumake-Silva and Jasminh Winger were arrested on Wednesday evening after a routine traffic stop. Before the officer could make contact with the occupants he detected an odor of marijuana. Officer Jose Saldivar made contact with the occupants and had them exit the vehicle. A child was also in the vehicle.
With the use of the Alice PD's K9 a search was conducted. Officers removed a container with marijuana, a grinder and pills. Shumake-Silva was charged with possession of marijuana and Winger was charged with possession of a controlled substance. They were taken to the JWC jail.
Officer Roel Escamilla responded to the Alice Football Stadium in reference to criminal mischief, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and burglary of a building. Unknown suspect(s) made entry onto the property and broke into the concession stand taking an unknown amount of candy. The suspect(s) also broke a windshield to an Alice ISD truck; the windshield was valued at $500. The individual(s) also damaged to two ATVs on the property when they drove them through the football field and may have crashed them. One ATV is valued at $7,000 and the other at $8,500.
