Freer, Texas - Jose R. "Joe" Garcia, 95 years old passed away Thursday, June 1, 2017 in a San Antonio hospice after a long illness. He served in the U. S. Navy as a petty officer during WWII in the capacity of a construction Sea-Bee. He was married for 66 years and was employed by Shell until his retirement after 41 years. Sports was one of his passions; especially the Cowboys, Spurs and the Astros. His prolific love for gardening showed a green thumb; he was able to grow almost any plant in the caliche soil in Freer, what an accomplishment. Another one of his great joys was ranching in partnership with his wife. With an engineering mind, he enjoyed solving maintenance jobs at home or while working on his autos, preferring Pontiacs. May you find eternal comfort and peace as we entrust you to the Lord's warmth and grace. We await the day that we join you in heaven along with all your loved ones. He was preceded in death by his parents Cruz and Antonia R. Garcia, his wife Amelia Saenz Garcia, two brothers Carlos Garcia and Esteban Garcia and one sister Maria Chapa.
