A brief standoff Friday at approximately 1 a.m. ended with a Jim Wells County businessman behind bars.

According to Sheriff Daniel Bueno, Neftali Zelaya was charged with a total of three counts of sexual assault of a child; two counts of JWC and one count out of Brooks County.

Zelaya locked himself inside his ranch located at Farm-to-Market 1538 and South County Road 425. The 52-year-old man is originally from El Salvador but resides in JWC.

JWC deputies along with the Department of Public Safety, US Border Patrol, Alice and Falfurrias Police Department, and Brooks County were warned that Zelaya was armed and dangerous.

According to Bueno, the charges stem when a family member made an outcry accusing Zelaya with inappropriate conduct earlier this year.

Zelaya was transported to the JWC jail when he gave himself up. He had a total bond of $250,000 for the two counts of sexual assault of a child from JWC.

He was released Friday afternoon to Brooks County officials for the third count of sexual assault of a child.
