Virginia Ruth Bartos Stokes, 71 years of age, passed away February 9, 2017 peacefully in Bryan, Texas.

Virginia was born on June 6, 1945 in Alice, Texas, to Ernest and Willma (Brand) Bartos. Her early years were spent learning in the Orange Grove schools and she graduated from Orange Grove High School. After high school, she began her career as bookkeeper and then office manager of the Orange Grove Cooperative. She did this faithfully for 32 years. She retired in 2010 and moved to Bryan to be closer to her first and only granddaughter, Riley. She was baptized, confirmed and a life-long member of Faith United Church of Christ. She was married to Harold Stokes and from this union, came the light of her life, Matthew Ross Stokes.

Everyone knew Virginia, as she spent many years as a very active volunteer, supporting the youth of Jim Wells County. She spent countless hours volunteering with the Orange Grove FFA and with the Jim Wells County Fair – as a director, and many years working and providing bookkeeping services for the Premium Auction. Virginia’s main interests included: being an avid and dedicated fan of the Dallas Cowboys, she enjoyed Willie Nelson from his career beginning, and first and foremost everything and anything her son was involved in.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Willma. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her son, Matthew Stokes, his wife Melissa and their daughter Riley Grace, numerous cousins, and friends.

Friends may visit on Saturday, February 18, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Faith United Church of Christ, 106 Wilson Street Orange Grove, Texas 78372.

A Memorial Service celebrating Virginia's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. immediately following the visitation, led by Rev. John Alsbrooks.
