Premont Police Department was investigating a stabbing that occurred Saturday, Feb. 4 night at a residence on the 200 block of Southeast First Street in Premont. Through the course of the investigation police discovered that the stabbing suspect was a 17-year-old Premont residence.

Dakota Trevino is alleged to have injured Jaime Mata and his brother, Gabino Mata.

Police received information that Trevino was at a residence in Rios, TX with friends.

On Wednesday, Feb. 8 deputies with the Duval County Sheriff's Office arrest Trevino on two warrants for aggravated assault with deadly weapon.

Gabino told police Trevino was on the property when Jaime was arriving. According to Interim Police Chief Fernando Garcia, Gabino believes Trevino was attempting to break into the residence when Jaime arrived.

According to Garcia, Gabino was across the street from the residence when he heard his brother scream and ran over to find Jaime with a stab wound to the abdominal area.

Gabino struggled with Trevino in the effort to take the knife from Trevino. In the process Trevino cut Gabino's hand, Garcia stated.

As Trevino attempted to flee the property he backed his vehicle into a portable building on the property and got stuck. Trevino than left the property on foot.

Garcia gives thanks to the Duval County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in apprehending Trevino.

Trevino was transported to the Duval County jail.
