William “Sonny” Wiederkehr, age 87, passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2017 in Freer, Texas. He was born in San Diego, Texas on November 26, 1929 to Clara and Monroe Wiederkehr.

He was a graduate of school in Freer, Texas. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. On October 24, 1975, he was appointed Commissioner of the Freer Precinct, Duval County, by District Judge Darrell Hester of Corpus Christi, Texas. He served for 11 years and together, the Commissioners Court accomplished a lot. Sonny was very proud to be a part of that.

Sonny was an outdoorsman, a rancher, and enjoyed roping. He mentored a lot of children, who are grown now, in roping. He built an arena for calf roping and barrel racing. There were always kids around. If there was a rodeo for kids, he’d be involved. He belonged to the Old Time Rodeo Association for people over age 50.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Clinton Wiederkehr, a sister, Cecelia Wiederkehr, and a niece, Susan Wiederkehr.

Sonny is survived by his sister, Corene (Joseph R.)
