While on patrol Officer Jose Saldivar conducted a traffic stop on Sidbury Street on Wednesday evening. The officer made contact with the driver and passenger, Jose Juan Escamilla. Escamilla was nervous and became agitated. A search of Escamilla uncovered a cigarette box with a small marijuana cigarette inside. Escamilla was arrested for possession of marijuana and transported to the Jim Wells County jail. The driver was released.
Traffic stop arrest
A defective tail light prompted Officer Nick Reyes to conducted a traffic stop on a Chevy Cruze. The officer made contact with Nicholas Salas and passenger Alexander Lugo. The officer was notified that Lugo had active warrants. As Lugo was exiting the vehicle the officer detected an odor of marijuana. Salas that the officer he had smoked marijuana earlier in the day. A search of the vehicle uncovered a bag of marijuana. Neither Lugo nor Salas took ownership of the narcotics. They were both arrested and taken to the JWC jail. They were charged with possession of marijuana.
Burglary suspec arrested
On Wednesday Alice police officer Sgt. Enrique Saenz arrested Edmond Hawks on the 600 block of East Third Street for a burglary that occurred in May 2016. In May, officers responded to a burglary call on South Flournoy. When officers arrived they were notified that someone had broken into the building and stole a black soft body Armour tactical vest. The suspect also attempted to take a vehicle parked outside the building. Hawks was charged with possession of metal/body armor by a felon.
