ORANGE GROVE, TEXAS: George “PoPo” “El Borrado” Cavazos Rios, age 87, passed away Saturday, October 29, 2016 in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was born February 22, 1929, in Orange Grove, Texas to Augustine Rios and Teresa Cavazos Rios. George was an outdoorsman who enjoyed tractors, fixing cars, and sitting outside conversing and singing with family. He also enjoyed playing card games like poker and solitaire, reading his newspaper, and making friends at the community center. George was a loving, devoted family man whom loved to keep his children laughing by joking with them and never ever missed a night kissing his late wife, Matilde’s picture. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Augustine and Teresa Rios; his wife, Matilde Rios; one son, George Rios; two daughters, Eva Ingram and Rosa Alegria; three brothers, Roberto, Ricardo, and Oscar Rios; and four grandchildren.

George is survived by one son, Jesus Rios (Joyce) of Orange Grove, Texas; five daughters, Virginia Garza (Marcos) of Orange Grove, Texas, Yolanda Ortiz (Armando) of Sandia, Texas, Sylvia Munguia (Robert) of Stout, Ohio, Stella Gamez (Robert) of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Margarita Alegria (Ruben) of Alvin, Texas; 34 grandchildren; 87 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 1, 2016, from 5 till 9 pm. at Rosas Funeral Home Chapel in Alice with a Rosary being recited at 7 p.m. that evening. The Family will be receiving friends at 8:15 a.m. on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church in Orange Grove with a Funeral Mass to begin at 9 am. Burial to follow at the Orange Grove Union Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Michael Rios, Rene Ortiz, Jaime Alaniz, Ruben Alegria Jr., Robert Alegria Jr., George Rios, David Rios, and David Paz. Honorary pallbearer will be Maeghan Garza.
